The sight of abandoned animals is always painful, but when those animals are expectant mothers, the situation becomes truly heartbreaking. Such was the case with Waffles, a pregnant pit bull discovered wandering alone three years ago.
A concerned man spotted Waffles near his home, clearly pregnant and in desperate need of assistance. Recognizing her vulnerable state, he quickly contacted Hope For Paws, a Los Angeles-based rescue organization dedicated to saving animals in distress.
The organization responded immediately, sending volunteers JoAnn Wiltz and Katie McKittrick to assess the situation. Upon their arrival, Waffles approached them with surprising trust, as if she somehow knew they were there to help. Despite her hunger and fatigue, she willingly climbed into their vehicle, ready to leave her difficult past behind.

After bringing Waffles to their facility, the team arranged for an ultrasound to check on her unborn puppies. Throughout the examination, Waffles remained remarkably calm, even appearing to smile during the procedure. The veterinarian confirmed she would likely give birth within the next ten days.

JoAnn decided to personally care for Waffles during this critical time, bringing her home to provide the comfort and security the expectant mother needed. That very night, in a beautiful coincidence on Mother’s Day, Waffles went into labor. JoAnn stayed by her side for hours as she successfully delivered six healthy puppies without complications.

Watching Waffles tenderly care for her newborns after everything she had endured was a powerful reminder of a mother’s resilience and unconditional love.
