In a touching and bittersweet story, one woman went above and beyond to make sure a dying shelter dog felt loved during his last hours.
A dog named Charlie arrived at Haven Paws Rescue after a kindhearted college student found him wandering alone in a city park.
The shelter took him in, but it was clear that Charlie didn’t have much time left. He was severely malnourished, covered in sores, and suffering from a cancerous tumor on his hind leg. He was rushed to the emergency vet, where he was given IV antibiotics and underwent tests.
But the shelter’s founder, Sarah Lawson, had a gut feeling that Charlie’s time was running out. The only thing she could do was ensure he spent his final hours in comfort. “I just knew he wouldn’t make it through the next day,” she later told a local news outlet.
So, Sarah set up a warm, cozy space for Charlie—placing blankets and soft dog beds on the floor. But then, she made an extraordinary decision.
