Akhal-Teke

Suffolk Punch
The Suffolk Punch is one of the oldest and rarest draft horse breeds, originating in England. This horse is known for its powerful build and chestnut color and was once highly valued for farm work. But, its population has drastically declined due to industrialization and it is now considered critically endangered.
Cleveland Bay
The Cleveland Bay is a versatile British horse breed that’s known for its strength and elegance. This horse is traditionally used for farm work and driving, but it has struggled to maintain popularity with modern technology replacing the need for animals. With fewer than 1,000 purebred Cleveland Bays remaining, they are one of the rarest breeds in the world.
American Cream Draft
The American Cream Draft is a uniquely American breed with its characteristic cream coat and amber eyes. Developed in the early 20th century, it’s the only draft horse breed native to the United States, according to the Livestock Conservancy. Its rarity is attributed to the shift away from draft horses in farming, and today, efforts are underway to preserve its population.
Marwari
The Marwari horse from India is easily recognized by its unique inward-turning ears. This breed was historically associated with the Rajput warriors and is known for its hardiness in the desert. Due to past restrictions on exporting these horses and their limited numbers, the Marwari remains one of the rarest breeds globally.
Dales Pony

Historically used in mining and farming, the Dales Pony has seen a sharp decline in numbers as modern machinery takes preference.. Despite its exceptional stamina and temperament, there are fewer than 500 registered Dales Ponies worldwide today, making it a critically endangered breed.

The Hackney Horse, originating from England, is prized for its high-stepping trot and elegance, making it a favorite in driving competitions. Though once widespread, its numbers have fallen dramatically due to a reduced demand for carriage horses, which is why it is so rare.
Eriskay Pony
Hailing from the Scottish Hebrides, the Eriskay Pony is a small but resilient breed with a history dating back to the Viking era. This ancient pony was once common across the islands, but today, it is critically endangered, with only a few hundred individuals remaining.
Galiceño
The Galiceño is a small horse breed from Mexico that packs a mighty punch. Introduced by Spanish explorers in the 16th century, the Galiceño is known for its endurance and agility. While this horse has historical importance, the breed has dwindled to only a few hundred in existence, primarily in the U.S.
Knabstrupper

Fjord Horse
The Fjord Horse from Norway is an ancient breed with a distinctively dun coat and a black dorsal stripe. The breed became popular due its strength, versatility, and calm temperament, but it’s rare due to its small breeding population across the world.
Kathiawari
Another rare Indian breed, the Kathiawari, is known for its endurance and distinctive inward-curving ears, similar to the Marwari. Bred in the Kathiawar peninsula, this hardy horse can survive in harsh desert conditions. But, due to modern breeding trends, the Kathiawari remains rare and is under threat of becoming extinct. .
Guoxia
The Guoxia, a miniature horse breed from China, is extremely rare and little-known outside its native region. Historically used for orchard work due to its small size, the Guoxia was thought to be extinct for many years. It has only recently been rediscovered, but its numbers remain critically low.
Aegidienberger
A relatively new breed from Germany, the Aegidienberger is a cross between the Paso Peruano and Icelandic horses. Known for its smooth gaits and endurance, this horse is still in the development phase and has a small breeding population, making it one of the rarest modern breeds.
Sorraia
The Sorraia is an ancient breed from the Iberian Peninsula, believed to be one of the ancestors of the Modern Mustang. Known for its primitive dun coloring and resilience, the Sorraia is critically endangered, with fewer than 200 horses remaining, most of them in Portugal and Spain.
